Naked Official 裸官
The term “naked official” refers to government officials and executives of state-backed firms whose family members live abroad or at least hold foreign passports. The Communist Party fears that those whose families move abroad while they continue to work in China can move ill-gotten gains out of the country and flee later to avoid punishment. As part of Beijing’s efforts to fight corruption, inspections of officials’ family backgrounds have been launched across the country. In January, the central government banned officials who have spouses or children living overseas from promotions to senior positions. In Guangdong Province, 866 "naked officials" have been demoted or moved to other posts after a round of family background checks were conducted. The officials were told to apply for early retirement, resign or move to other positions. Some of them have decided to move their families back from overseas.
